Shivendra has also collaborated with the World Cinema Foundation (WCF) headed by Martin Scorsese to restore the landmark 1948 Indian film “Kalpana” directed by Uday Shankar. In June 2011, representatives of the WCF mentioned to Shivendra how they had been trying to get the film from the Indian Archive to Italy for restoration. However, after three years they had given up. Shivendra assured them that he would get the cans out and after a great deal of legwork and numerous trips to the National Film Archive in Pune, Kalpana reached the lab in Bologna within three months.
The film was beautifully restored by the L’Immagine Ritrovata lab in Bologna and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2012 where Shivendra was a special invitee of the WCF at the red carpet event.
