In 2009, Shivendra read an interview given by Martin Scorsese where he spoke about film restoration and mentioned Il Cinema Ritrovato, a festival of restored films that took place annually in Bologna, Italy. |
His interest piqued, Shivendra went to Bologna for Il Cinema Ritrovato that year, which marked a turning point in his life. Shivendra fell in love with cinema all over again and discovered a passion for film restoration and archiving. |
Since then, Shivendra has been back to Bologna every year for the festival and has facilitated the restoration of two classics - Uday Shankar’s “Kalpana” and Dr. Lester James Peries’ “Nidhanaya” in collaboration with the World Cinema Foundation and L’Immagine Ritrovata, Bologna. |
Recognizing a true cinephile, the Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna invited Shivendra along with the legendary film company Pathe to be supporting members. In acknowledgement of their contribution and support for the cause of film restoration, Shivendra and Jerome and Sophie Seydoux of Pathe were felicitated at the Town Hall by the Mayor of Bologna on July 1, 2013. |
